‘Extra Thick’ follows on from ‘Living In Leeds’ the band’s first LP (Gringo Records) but encompasses songs written both before and after that recording, having revisited some early material and finding it to be suitably banging.

The 7 songs encompass what has come to be Thick Syrup’s signature sound of funk and hard rock infused garage riffing with Gem’s singularly recognisable vocals, (think Shocking Blue meets Dub Narcotic Sound System) but expands on that sound with hints of other influences, such as Britpop and organ lead 60s beat music on ‘Cash and carry’, psychedelia on ‘Leaf Reader’ and even glam and noise rock on ‘Pocket Watch’.

The songs were recorded and mixed entirely by the band themselves during snatched opportunities throughout 2018 and early 2019 in their practice space in Armley, Leeds, and various bedrooms and living rooms across the UK.
